Born in Bogotá, Colombia, House of Word Coffee founder Jonathan Dreszer grew up on coffee—dunking toast in his cup every morning and graduating to black coffee by age 10. This early passion stayed with him, and he went on to join the coffee world professionally. His journey began with a month-long road trip through some of Colombia’s most rugged areas—from Cañon de las Hermosas to El Libano in southern Tolima—home to the country’s most prized coffee.
Jonathan spent nearly a decade with a top specialty coffee roaster, helping them become one of the most relevant players in the crowded space of specialty coffee. At the onset of the pandemic, he set out to start something new—and began surveying the instant coffee landscape. He quickly realized it was a category overdue for disruption: it tasted terrible; had dated, unsustainable packaging; and hadn’t seen an innovation in years.
